Palwal is a city and a municipal council. It is the headquarters of Palwal district, the 21st district of Haryana state in northern India.

It is situated at a distance of 60 km from Delhi on the Delhi-Mathura highway. The latitude of the town is 28° 40' N and longitude is 76° 59' E. The area of town is 22.10 kmē

It is a place of great antiquity, supposed to figure in the earliest Aryan traditions under the name of Apelava, part of the Pandava kingdom of Indraprastha, which was later restored by Vikramaditya. Its importance is mainly historical, but it is a centre for the cotton trade in the area. It is the site of a Hindu temple called "Panchvati" which is a great symbol of the religion. Mahatama Gandhi was arrested for the first time at the Palwal station. Palwal Station Have Highest Numbers Of Platforms(8) In Whole Haryana.
History
Ancient and medieval period
The city Palwal got its name from a demon, "Palwasur" who ruled this place during the reign of Pandavas. He was killed by Balarama,elder brother of Shri Krishna. In his memory, every year a festival is organised in Palwal which is known as "Baldev Chhat Ka Mela". There is also a temple "Dauji Temple" dedicated to Balaram near Municipal Chowk of Palwal. It become the distt of Haryana on 15 August 2008. Dhatir,Deeghot,Chandhut,Mitnol,Banchari are biggest villages in area of Palwal. Syed Yusuf Ali Palwali was a noble and rich man from Palwal during the short ruling period of Muhammad Azam Shah and died along with Muhammad Azam Shah on 19 June 1707 at the battle of Jajuwan.

In 17th century, Khan Mohammad from Palwal married his daughter with Qazi Syed Rafi Mohammad. Similarly, the son of Qazi Syed Rafi Mohammad, Mohammad Baqar, was married to Sultan Bibi from Palwal. The daughter of Mohammad Baqar, 'Khairun Nisan' was also married in Palwal to Mohammad Ikram ibn Sultan Mohammad (alias Qazi Mian of Palwal). The daughter of 'Khairun Nisan' and Mohmmad Ikram namely 'Noorun Nisan' was married with Mohammad Mureeed, son of Qazi Syed Hayatullah. Qazi Syed Mohammad Rafi also married in Palwal with Fazal Nisan, daughter of Mohammad Saeed ibn Mohammad Hussain ibn Maulana Abul Khair. These intermarriages show how deep relations were there between Palwal and Sakras.In the majority Attri are found in the old city.They was the king in the ancieent time but Jitender Singh Attri come to gurgaon to make this city their property.
